N°08 Trekking Knife
The Trekking knife is a colored version of the legendary Opinel N°08 model. The handle is made of French Hornbeam white wood, which is ideal for applying colors. The leather lace through the handle piercing makes it easy to hang the knife when not in use.
The stainless steel blade has excellent corrosion resistance and doesn't require any special maintenance for keeping the excellent cutting quality. Rotating the ring with Virobloc locking system locks the blade in closed or open position as needed.

The Design of the Opinel Knife
Opinel knife is both smart and simple, composed of 5 elements: the blade, the haft, the fixed ferrule, the rivet and the rotating ferrule that was added in 1955.
- Sharp traditional Yatagan blade with a convex profile and a nail nick for opening, stamped with the Crowned Hand.
- Fixed ring for robustness

- Rotating Virobloc ring to lock the blade in its open or closed position.
The Safety Ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to every Opinel folding knife from the N°06 upwards. Cut from stainless steel, it locks the blade in open position (safe to use) and in a closed position (safe to carry). More reliable and easier Virobloc was developed in 2016.
Convex Blade
Opinel blades are filed to produce an exclusive convex profile which allows a high resistance to the cutting edge compared to a similar sized blade that's filed flat. Also, the contact between the sides of the blade and the cut material is minimised which reduces friction and makes the cutting easier.
Steel
Opinel uses Swedish 12C27 modified stainless steel Sandvik. 14.5% addition of chrome enhances the resistance to corrosion and doesn't need much maintenance. The carbon content of at least 0.50% gives an excellent cutting edge.
Wood
95% of the handle wood comes from sustainably managed French forests, to minimise the impact on the environment.
Made in France
All pocket knives are manufactured in the Opinel factory in Chambéry, Savoie, in the hear of the French Alps.

It was affordable; but can't recomment due to the lack of locking mechanism.
Buy the little more expensive version with the locking mechanism.

Functional knife for everyday use
Used for opening online shopping packages, cutting flower stems, everyday chores, where it works great. The red knife stands out easily in the accessories box.

Always with you
I cried when I lost my last Opinel. Luckily I found Mukama by googling, where I ordered it on my phone and was quite surprised when it arrived in my mailbox two days later.
This knife is always with me and I can always use it for camping, opening packages, as a substitute for a screwdriver and the tip can even be used for things that require precision. A great gift even for those who already have ""everything"".

Tuli itku kun hukkasin edellisen Opinelini. Onneksi löytyi googlaamalla Mukama, josta tilasin sen kännykällä ja yllätys oli melkoinen kun se olikin postilaatikossa jo kahden päivän päästä.
