N°08 Stainless Steel Knife
The N°08 is an icon itself and the most popular pocket knife in the Opinel Tradition collection. This knife has been handed down from generation to generation and it's shape hasn't changed since 1890. The stainless steel blade has excellent corrosion resistance and doesn't require any special maintenance for keeping the excellent cutting quality. The wood handle is secure and feels comfortable. Rotating the ring with Virobloc locking system locks the blade in closed or open position as needed. It's the perfect all-rounder and great choice for your everyday carry.

The Design of the Opinel Knife
Opinel knife is both smart and simple, composed of 5 elements: the blade, the haft, the fixed ferrule, the rivet and the rotating ferrule that was added in 1955.
- Sharp traditional Yatagan blade with a convex profile and a nail nick for opening, stamped with the Crowned Hand.
- Fixed ring for robustness

- Rotating Virobloc ring to lock the blade in its open or closed position.
The Safety Ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to every Opinel folding knife from the N°06 upwards. Cut from stainless steel, it locks the blade in open position (safe to use) and in a closed position (safe to carry). More reliable and easier Virobloc was developed in 2016.
Convex Blade
Opinel blades are filed to produce an exclusive convex profile which allows a high resistance to the cutting edge compared to a similar sized blade that's filed flat. Also, the contact between the sides of the blade and the cut material is minimised which reduces friction and makes the cutting easier.
Steel
Opinel uses Swedish 12C27 modified stainless steel Sandvik. 14.5% addition of chrome enhances the resistance to corrosion and doesn't need much maintenance. The carbon content of at least 0.50% gives an excellent cutting edge.
Wood
95% of the handle wood comes from sustainably managed French forests, to minimise the impact on the environment.
Made in France
All pocket knives are manufactured in the Opinel factory in Chambéry, Savoie, in the hear of the French Alps.

Classic
No-frills knife that is cheap, looks good, has a very simple ring locking mechanism and does its job. Isn't super sharp out of the box but that's fine for everyday use. No complaints!

I'd love to buy a classic like this for daily use as I've never owned one at this age, 66 years old.
One star missing from five because the blade had to be sharpened and the sharp metal parts slightly rounded, so the finish was not top notch. Otherwise, the knife is incredibly good for the price! I can't say about the grip of the blade yet when there is a roster, I would have bought a carbon steel one but it wasn't available or I couldn't find it..

Pitihän tämmöinen klassikko ostaa mukana kannettavaksi päivittäiseen käyttöön kun en ole ikinä ole omistanut tähän ikään, 66v.
Yksi tähti uupuu viidestä kun terää piti teroittaa ja teräviä metalliosia hieman pyöristää eli viimeistely ei ollut huippua. Muuten veitsi on hintaansa nähden uskomattoman hyvä! Terän pidosta en osaa vielä sanoa kun on rosteria, olisinkin ostanut hiiliteräksisen mutta ei ollut tarjolla tai en löytänyt..

Affordable basic knife
I bought it when I didn't own it yet. A good and very affordable basic knife for lighter chores. A good thin blade, it chops and slices the food you took on the trip with ease. Very light to carry on the go. It's also easy to customize the handle to the color you like. For myself, the color stain brought a nice result. A must buy at this price. It's not for nothing that this has been praised for decades!

Ostin kun en vielä omistanut. Hyvä ja erittäin edullinen perusveitsi kevyempiin askareisiin. Plussaa terän ohuudesta, tällä pilkkoo ja siivuttaa retkelle mukaan otetut syömiset näppärästi. Erittäin kevyt kantaa matkassa. Helppo myös tuunata kahvaosa mieleisen väriseksi. Itselle väripetsi toi kivan tuloksen. Tällä hinnalla pakkohankinta. Eipä tätä turhaa olla vuosikymmeniä kehuttu!

Pesant knife
This knife is something so cool. I use it a lot for cooking and cutting stews or fruit. Really handy and simple.
The best part is that it's made in France and costs less than a tenner.
The finish on the blade is not the best, but it passes the paper test.

Tämä veitsi on jotain niin makeeta. Käytän tätä paljon ruoanlaitossa ja patongin tai hedelmien leikkaamisessa. Todella näppärä ja yksinkertainen.
Parasta tässä on, että tämä on valmistettu Ranskassa ja maksaa alle kympin.
