N°06 Stainless Steel Knife
The N°06 is the smallest Opinel knife with Virobloc double safety ring, which locks the blade in closed or open position as needed. The 7 cm blade is 1,5 cm smaller than in the N°08. The shape is this traditional Opinel which hasn't changed since the 1890.
The stainless steel blade has an excellent corrosion resistance and doesn't require any special maintenance for keeping the excellent cutting quality. The wood handle is secure and feels comfortable. N°06 is a great choice for practical and efficient daily manual work, small crafts and sewing.

The Design of the Opinel Knife
Opinel knife is both smart and simple, composed of 5 elements: the blade, the haft, the fixed ferrule, the rivet and the rotating ferrule that was added in 1955.
- Sharp traditional Yatagan blade with a convex profile and a nail nick for opening, stamped with the Crowned Hand.

- Rotating Virobloc ring to lock the blade in its open or closed position.
The Safety Ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to every Opinel folding knife from the N°06 upwards. Cut from stainless steel, it locks the blade in open position (safe to use) and in a closed position (safe to carry). More reliable and easier Virobloc was developed in 2016.
Convex Blade
Opinel blades are filed to produce an exclusive convex profile which allows a high resistance to the cutting edge compared to a similar sized blade that's filed flat. Also, the contact between the sides of the blade and the cut material is minimised which reduces friction and makes the cutting easier.
Steel
Opinel uses Swedish 12C27 modified stainless steel Sandvik. 14.5% addition of chrome enhances the resistance to corrosion and doesn't need much maintenance. The carbon content of at least 0.50% gives an excellent cutting edge.
Wood
95% of the handle wood comes from sustainably managed French forests, to minimise the impact on the environment.
Made in France
All pocket knives are manufactured in the Opinel factory in Chambéry, Savoie, in the hear of the French Alps.

Simple, handy and doesn't break a bank
Very handy and sharp small knife. Not right out of the box but with a little effort the edge became so sharp that you can almost cut yourself in half. Fingers took a toll.
Before I didn't care much about Opinel, but I realised that with a little bit of work you can do nice modifications and make them to even look good, so I fell in love with them (that's why the image is not a regular one). I have several and this is the smallest version. Didn't fail this time either.
One star was taken off, because if you think starting to use these out of the box, often there is a disappointment because you have to sharpen it before use. I think each that I bought has the same problem, the edge is a bit "rolled". Not a big issue to sharpen and I never had a problem with it, but if you don't have the stone or Moomin mug nearby then, well.

Erittäin näppärä ja ihan pirun terävä pikkuveitti. Ei toki ihan suoraan paketista mutta pienellä vaivalla tuli sen verran teräväks, että melkeen leikkas ittensä kahtia. Mennessään kyllä pikkasen silppus sormia.
En ennen Opinelista perustanu mutta kun tajusin, että niille voi todella pienellä laitolla tehdä super kivoja modauksia ja niin saada niistä jopa hyvännäkösiä niin rakastuin niihin (siks kuvakaan ei oo ihan perus). Nyt jo useampia takana ja tää niistä pienin versio. Ei pettäny tämäkään.
Yks tähti tippu, syystä että jos ajattelee ostaa suoraan käyttöön niin joutuu kyllä monesti pettymään koska joutuu terottamaan ennen käyttöä. Oisko peräti jokaisessa ostamassani sama ongelma että teränsuu pikkasen ”rullalla”. Ei se iso vaiva oo teräväks saada ja mua ei koskaan haitannu, mut jossei just sitä puikkoa tai muumimukia oo läsnä ni sitte höh.

Classic for a reason
Abandon modernity - embrace tradition! After all the tech toys and fancy bells and whistles I have tried out, the good old Opinel is where I seem to come back to. Comfortable handle, beautiful aesthetics and most of all superior edge geometry.. what more do you need? Oh, and also lightweight! Little bit overshadowed by the popular no 8 but for no reason. Handle is still very comfy for my medium glove hands.

Quality knife for a fair price
The No. 6 is pretty iconic knife and serves as a great EDC tool to have in your pocket for almost all tasks. Blade is pretty thin which makes sharpening a breeze. The handle and virobloc mechanism makes cutting safe, although the Polyurethane coating on the wood handle needed to be sanded to improve grip, as it was a bit slippery.
One aspect that I wish implemented is having a small hole for lanyard or keychain in the handle.
I also ordered the walnut version as a gift and it's exactly the same, so this feedback applies to both.

Handy and high quality small knife
I needed a handy little knife for opening drawers and other daily chores and this Opinel seems to be just the tool for the job. The product is high quality and a pleasure to the eye.

Beautiful and practical
